THE BEST OF GROHL AT REAL TIME LIVE CHESTERFIELD

REASONABLEY FULL venues are always pleasing and The Best Of Grohl didn’t dampen or disappoint the enthusiastic crowd at Chesterfield’s premier venue.

Opening up in raucous fashion with the Queens Of The Stone Age hit No One Knows, New Fang and All My Life this twenty two song set was blistering, passionate and full of the Foo Fighter delights plus other Dave Grohl classics we all know and love. Basically, anything Dave’s done, this lot try and cover.

Whilst only a foursome comprising Simon  Marsh on drums, James Bailes on bass, Greg Clark on guitar and Joe Russell on vocals and rhythm guitar, I wouldn’t really put them in the ‘tribute’ bag as those bands make more effort to actually look like their heroes.  And yes, front man Joe did seem to have the same guitar as Dave Grohl, but to me they just looked like four guys having fun, playing songs with complete ease such as Learn To Fly and Come As You Are, which just flowed out of the public address. Drumming duties  were top class and I could feel the man’s sweat as his kit received a maximum workout.

Mainly hailing from Plymouth and Cornish parts with very impressive C.V.s, they’ve been a unit since 2021 and more recently have stepped up a few gears as they can be playing for up to 800 people a night. With great lighting and sound, Real Time Live really know how to put on top shows and The Best Of Grohl was the cherry on the cake. These boys weren’t just playing at it, they knew their instruments inside out and delivered a really polished and practiced show which the Chesterfield masses lapped up.

With smiles and goodbyes they ended more raucously than the start, with Smells Like Teen Spirit creating mass dance floor movement. With promises of returning, here’s a gig to put in your dairy. Not only will you have enjoyment but you’ll be supporting one of the finest live venues in the north midlands.
