DEF LEPPARD SHEFFIELD ARENA

PACKING out large sheds like Sheffield Arena wasn’t even a dream back in 1977. In fact, some sheds didn’t even exist! Not many bands had the vision, good fortune or the staying power to get there. Def Leppard have, and have stayed top league players for most of their career, so recent single Rejoice was an apt tune to kick off this latest appearance on home turf.

Looking good, sounding good and putting on strong shows is in their DNA with all the big hitters getting airplay, plus, a nice reworking of the Depech Mode hit Personal Jesus, complete with heavy guitar riffing form Messer Campbell and Collen.

Words always have to mentioned about the real heart of bands and here we have always had bassist Rick Savage and the Thunder God Rick Allen steering the ships groove with the others adding more than the icing on the cake.

Being of a certain vintage I always like non hits and choice cuts form various albums which some bands are reluctant to do for fear of splitting the audience but we’re all Def Leppard fans underneath so maybe this is something the band may rectify in future years.

Thinking hard and sensibly about it, starting a band can be a fool’s game as making a living, keeping everyone happy and aiming for greater things is fraught with difficulties. From the outset, the band have always been focused, serious and have used their collective brains well because getting to this level after nearly fifty years together wasn’t really on anyone’s radar, but as always, Def Leppard always been spot on with their career choices.
