THE BITES at ROCK CITY NOTTINGHAM
MUSICALLY, the landscape has moved up a gear these past few years, with Hollywood stars The Bites being the latest gang to catch the eye.
Relatively unknown, this fivesome took the Nottingham stage early, opening with Knockin’ On The Door and Squeeze, an up-tempo single release and title track off their debut album, both songs that got the band’s audience taking note.

Comprising Mark Hylander on the tubs, Dustin Coon and Jono Richer on guitar, bassist Zack Currier and mouthpiece Jordan Tyler, The Bites are quickly learning their craft and kept the tempo up for most of the night. Even though they only knocked out eleven tunes they gave the Nottingham crowd everything. Travelling halfway around the world and playing to complete strangers is both a gamble and daunting, which must be difficult for bands starting out on the ladder of life. The Bites though showed no signs of nerves, as frontman Jordan articulated well and smiled, as did most of the group. Yes, folks, you can do this if you’re in a band. With gritted teeth this likable bunch played and entertained, had good tunes with tongues firmly in cheeks, and delivered foot-stomping songs like Heather Leather, Do Me a Favour with Pretty Boy closing the night in raucous fashion.
Just a few months ago I’d never heard of these American misfits, but for just over an hour they played their hearts out and this supportive crowd swallowed them whole. Hopefully, their label, Earache Records, will recognise their talents and help to keep the ship sailing. They performed well, smiled well and I thought they were great. See you at Stonedead Festival boys.
