GLASS RHINO PAYTRON SAINT AT HASLAND CLUB CHESTERFIELD
SEEING two unknowns is always full of trepidation, yet both these units did good work keeping the Hasland Club in Chesterfield happy.
Openers Paytron Saint chose originals playing thirteen strong songs that received good applause. Featuring Dan Brigstock on drums, Dean Lloyd on bass, Nick Glynne-Davies on guitar and vocals, they hail from the Derby and Belper area and have umpteen gigs under their collective belts, and it showed. Whilst a few covers would have been wise, what they did was well-crafted, held the crowd, and gained handshakes all round, especially to drumming machine Nick.

Headliners Glass Rhino have also done ample spade work around Sheffield and north Derbyshire, with their song collection also consisting mainly of original tunes, though wisely they did close their set with covers. What started off very slowly, it took time to work out the song, which again was clever, and it wasn’t until a few lines in of the first verse that the penny dropped. A much stripped-down version of AC/DC’s Rosie. The slow pace continued for a while until midway through, all four band members kicked in. This really did work, as did Gay Bar, Thunderstruck, and whilst not my favourite band, an obvious Guns ‘N’ Roses track, which I’ll let you go and find out which one.
Having not seen either band before, it has to be said that I was quite impressed by both outfits, and if you’re ever faced with the dilemma of should I stay or should I go, after this showing, clearly you should.
